What to expect from Linguistics courses in Fall 2020

The Department of Linguistics has been working hard this summer to reinvent its curriculum in a form that offers students an engaging learning experience while respecting the challenges and constraints of the COVID-19 era. Our courses this fall will employ a variety of approaches and technologies to ensure that students receive the engagement and support they need in order to succeed.

In the course catalogue, you will see courses listed as in person, hybrid, and fully online. Currently, the only courses that are fully online are LIN 200 (sections 002, 003, and 201) and LIN 211 (sections 002, 003, and 201). All other classes in the department offer some form of in person content. Some courses listed as hybrid or in person, like LIN 311 and LIN 328 (among others), may involve alternative attendance plans, such as only requiring students to be physically present in class one day per week. Others may take the form of a traditional, in person experience, like in LIN 510. If you have questions or concerns about the modalities of the classes in which you are enrolled, you should contact the instructor directly.

It is our hope that students will feel comfortable reaching out to their instructors in this difficult time. The Department of Linguistics strives to support our students, and we will do what we can to help each of you succeed.
